Thomas Tuchel officially announced as new Chelsea coach

Barely a month has gone by since Thomas Tuchel was forced to spend Christmas clearing out his desk at Paris Saint-Germain, yet the German coach has bounced back from his sacking by being officially announced as Chelsea's new coach..

Tuchel is Frank Lampard's replacement and has signed an initial 18-month contract with the Premier League club, although there is a possibility for that to be extended.

Lampard's time in charge of the club was officially brought to an end on Monday, with Roman Abramovich even getting as involved to pen his own comments in the Blues' official statement which confirmed the former midfielder's dismissal, something he hasn't done since 2007.

"I can't wait to meet my new tram and compete in the most exciting league in football, I'm grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family - it feels amazing," Tuchel declared to Chelsea's official website.

Tuchel's first training session as Chelsea coach will come on Tuesday evening, and he will be in charge for the Wednesday evening league fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Aside from concocting a gameplan to take on Nuno Espirito Santo's side, the former Mainz coach has a number of difficult matters sitting in his in-tray for Thursday morning.

Getting the best out of Werner and Havertz

Abramovich, for all his wealth, doesn't like seeing his expensive purchases sitting on the bench. He hated it when Jose Mourinho refused to pick a misfiring Andriy Shevchenko, and the suspicion is he won't have been too keen to see both Timo Werner and Kai Havertz siting on the bench of late, especially not given their combined cost of 125 million euros.

Tuchel has, in part, been hired to get the best out of his fellow countrymen, he has to find a system which utilises the forward talents of both Werner and Havertz.

Werner has scored just one goal in his last 16 matches, whilst Havertz has been unable to even force his way into the starting XI in recent fixtures.

Tuchel has to rectify that, if he can't get Werner and Havertz to play in tandem with each other, then he simply won't be a success at Stamford Bridge.
