But the former Ghanaian hitman is alive and kicking in his homeland - and says he is "not even sick."

A video was then posted on social media of Yeboah working out on a cross-trainer in a gym.

Yeboah told a local radio station: "Those people behind these stories must stop this.

"It is not just me that they have done this to. Recently they did the same to Abedi Pele which is not nice.

"You don’t have to use social media for such vices. I am not even sick so when I heard it, I was so surprised.

"My aunt saw it on social media and told me about. I want to assure all those who have been worried by the news that it is not true. I am alive."

Yeboah is best remembered by Prem fans for a stunning volley against Liverpool in the 1995-96 season.

He netted 32 goals in 59 games for Whites in his first two seasons after making a £3.4million move from Eintracht Frankfurt.

But he fell out with boss George Graham in the 1996-97 season and played just seven games, then returning to Germany to join Hamburg.

After a four-year spell in the Bundesliga and a year-long swansong in Qatar, he turned businessman.

Returning to his native Ghana, Yeboah set up the aptly-named Yegoala chain of hotels in the capital Accra and Kumasi.
