Dutch defender Erik Pieters is relishing a return to the Premier League, having signed a two-year contract to link up with Burnley.

The versatile 30-year-old, who has won 18 caps for the Netherlands, has moved to Turf Moor after ending a six-year stay with Stoke City, for whom he made more than 200 appearances in all competitions.

I feel I can bring experience, because I have played a lot of Premier League games at Stoke.

And, having tasted life in the top-flight with the Potters, Pieters is excited by the opportunity to show what he can do in the Premier League once again.

He told his new club's official website: "Burnley gave me the opportunity to get back into the Premier League and it feels good to be back.

"I feel I can bring experience, because I have played a lot of Premier League games at Stoke.

"I am just looking forward to playing and showing what I can do. I trust myself and I am ready to show that to everyone. I still feel really fit and ready to do my thing."

Meanwhile, the Clarets are also believed to be closing in on a deal to re-sign striker Jay Rodriguez from West Bromwich Albion.

The 29-year-old one-time England international started his career at Turf Moor before heading to Southampton in the summer of 2012, moving on to the Baggies five years later.

Rodriguez scored 41 goals in 128 appearances during his first spell with Burnley and was a member of the squad who gained promotion to the Premier League in 2009.

Burnley are 7/1 to finish in the top half of the Premier League table next season, while Sean Dyche's side are 6/4 to be relegated.
