Torino 1-2 Chievo: Poor Granata lose to Flying Donkeys

Published on: 07 February 2016

Chievo beat Torino at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon in Serie A, deserving the away victory.

The Granata started the better side, scoring after 20 minutes with a clean finish by Marco Benassi, but stopped pushing forward after that and conceded the equalizer shortly after via a Bruno Peres own goal. Chievo took the lead in the second half thanks to a Valter Birsa penalty, and then controlled the rest of the game.

The hosts went ahead with a Benassi goal after a lovely Ciro Immobile assist, his third in the last two games and seemed in control.

Gianpiero Ventura’s men stopped playing their football after that though, and on 34 minutes conceded due an unlucky own goal by Peres to put Chievo level. Torino have now conceded three own goals this season, more than any other team.

The first half finished without other incidents, as both teams seemed happy to go in level.

The second 45 minutes started with Torino going close to retaking the lead with a similar chance to that of the first goal, with Benassi collecting from Immobile but he fired wide.

Chievo started taking over after that and on 65 minutes Daniele Padelli brilliantly saved a close range shot by Roberto Inglese.

Padelli could do nothing on 70 minutes, though, when Birsa calmly converted a penalty given after a foul by Danilo Avelar on Ruben Castro, to put the visitors ahead.

Torino then started to attack the visitors from all angles, in search for the equalizer, and on 82 minutes Immobile should have scored from inside the box but shot wide.

The Granata were unable to find the equaliser and suffered a home defeat, with Rolando Maran’s men taking all three points.
