Toronto FC preparing a 'record-breaking' bid to sign Insigne

The Canadian-based team has made an offer to sign the captain of Napoli, who will become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

Lorenzo Insigne has yet to sign a contract extension with Napoli and several teams are tracking his situation because he will become a free agent next summer. The Italian playmaker rejected the latest offer that would see him earn €4.6 million per campaign with bonuses included, as he is demanding a sum close to €7 million.

Second bid from Toronto FC

European clubs like Inter Milan are keen on signing the Euro 2021 winner with Italy, but the offer is not close to the one presented by Major League Soccer side Toronto FC. A couple of weeks ago the agent of the captain of Napoli, Vincenzo Pisacane, ruled out any move to MLS, because he wants to stay in Italy.

According to Nashville journalist Will Forbes, Toronto FC has made a serious offer to Insigne and his agent that would be ‘record breaking’ in Major League Soccer. Forbes said that there is a good chance that the Italian playmaker will accept it and join the Canadian-based team in the summer.

The report states that TFC’s offer is greater than the one they presented to Sebastian Giovinco in 2015 when he was under contract with Juventus. The MLS side is looking to part ways with former USMNT striker Jozy Altidore and this will leave one of the three designated spots available for the 2022 campaign.
