Tottenham job would 'interest' Julian Nagelsmann if Jose Mourinho is sacked

Jose Mourinho needs to fix Spurs' form and quickly, with Julian Naglesmann waiting in the wings and keen to take-over the north Londoners' push for silverware.

Tottenham sit ninth in the Premier League, nine points away from a top-four berth. The now familiar Mourinho unravelling looks to be in motion, with grumblings emerging from the dressing room.

Meanwhile, Julian Nagelsmann is continuing to prove his quality. The 33-year-old's RB Leipzig are refusing to let Bayern Munich run away with the Bundesliga this time, sitting in second despite losing talisman Timo Werner last summer.

Daniel Levy reportedly sees the German as his prime candidate to take over in N17 if Mourinho exits, after a sorry 2-1 defeat to West Ham made it back-to-back defeats.

Levy looks like he's in luck, with Nagelsmann interested in a move to Tottenham if the opportunity arises, according to Bild.

Nagelsmann was among Chelsea's options before appointing Thomas Tuchel to replace Frank Lampard, and has been touted for top European jobs since working wonders at Hoffenheim as the Bundesliga's youngest boss.

However, Leipzig chief Markus Krosche believes there's no need for the German boss to jet off to the Premier League just yet.

'When you do a good job, you arouse desire,' he told Bild.

'But Julian feels comfortable because he has everything he needs here. The team is developing great.

'That's why I see no reason for him to switch – especially since he has a valid contract with us.'

Mourinho will be desperate to be the man who brings silverware back to Tottenham for the first time since 2008, but to be in with a shout he need to keep his job until the Carabao Cup final in April.

Spurs face the intimidating Manchester City – who crushed the north Londoners 3-0 earlier this month – at Wembley, but the Europa League is now their only other realistic hope of a trophy.

Nagelsmann hasn't brought silverware to Leipzig until now, but a run to last season's Champions League semi-finals has been among the young boss' impressive achievements.
