DR Congo champions TP Mazembe have completed the signing of Ghanaian defender Abdul Ganiyu Ismail on a permanent deal, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm
The former Asante Kotoko captain has signed a two-year contract with the five-time African champions after passing his medical examination on Thursday.
The 26-year-old central defender heads to Lubumbashi on a free transfer after parting ways with Iraqi club Al Talaba SC which he joined in September last year.
The highly-rated defender signed for Kotoko in October 2018 from Karela United and was immediately a key player as he continued to become the club's captain before his exit.
Abdul Ganiyu made over 89 appearances for the Porcupine Warriors in the Ghana Premier League, CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup as he scored 12 goals in the process.
He won the Ghana Premier League with the Ghanaian giants in the 2021-22 season, first league title in eight years.
Abdul Ganiyu made his debut for the Ghana national team on March 25, 2021, against South Africa during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications in Johannesburg.
He also featured against Sao Tome and Principe in the same competition in Accra and an international friendly match against Cote d'Ivoire at the Cape Coast stadium.
Abdul Ganiyu was an instrumental member of the Wa All Stars team that won the Ghana Premier League for the first time in the club's history in 2016.
