After thumping Medeama SC by 3-1 in the opening group game in the CAF Confederation Cup, TP Mazembe midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei has revealed that his side was scared of the Ghanaians.

Two goals from Zambian international Rainford Kalaba and a header from Malian defender Salif Coulibally gave the Mazembe side the comfortable win.

And the former Asante Kotoko captain says his technical team was scared of Ghana’s FA Cup champions ahead of the clash.

“Ahead of the game our leaders were scared of Medeama. They knew we have talent in Ghana and any Ghanaian team has good materials,” Nii Adjei said.

“But after opening the scores, we told ourselves we can't disappoint our fans so we need to up our game. And that gave us the win,” he added.

Medeama are bottom of the table following MO Bajaia’s lone goal victory over Tanzanian side Young Africans on Sunday night.
