SPAL announced on Friday that former Italy forward Giuseppe Rossi has signed a season-long contract with the Serie B club.
Rossi, an American native, returns to Italy after a three-year absence, his career marred by significant knee injuries largely behind him.
After being released by Genoa in 2018, he played for Real Salt Lake in the Major Soccer League for a half-season before failing a drug test.
He also played for Fiorentina from 2013 and 2017, however his most successful period was with Villarreal, when he became the Spanish club's all-time best goalscorer with 82 goals in six years.
Rossi, a striker of unquestionable ability, also played 30 times for Italy, scoring seven goals.
