TRIBAL TEAM OF THE WEEK: De Bruyne stars again for Man City as Crystal Palace pair dominate

Published on: 01 December 2015

Kevin De Bruyne, Yannick Bolasie and James McArthur all featured in the Week 14 Tribal Team of the Week.

De Bruyne scored and assisted in Manchester City's 3-1 win over Southampton while Bolasie and McArthur both scored braces as Crystal Palace easily beat Newcastle United 5-1.

There was another selection for in-form Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon while Leicester City record-breaker Jamie Vardy also found a spot in the XI after scoring for the 11th consecutive Premier League match.

TRIBAL TEAM OF THE WEEK - 14
*4-3-3 formation

Goalkeeper

Costel Pantilimon (Sunderland)

The lofty Romanian backed up his clean sheet against Crystal Palace last week with another shutout against Stoke City on the weekend.
His save to deny Jon Walters in the first half could definitely be described as match-winning as the Black Cats continue their good run of form under Sam Allardyce.
Made a trio of other saves to keep Sunderland in the contest.

Defenders

Adam Smith (Bournemouth)

The Cherries right-back made a massive impact when coming at half-time against Everton.
Kept the Toffees attack quiet before unleashing a sizzling shot past Tim Howard in the 80th minute to kick his side into gear in their eventual 3-3 draw.
Was crucial in the build-up to the late equaliser with a daring run through midfield prior to Stanislas' late leveller.

Chris Smalling (Manchester United)

Another stellar performance from the Red Devils centre-back.
Had his hands full with a rampant Leicester attack and although Vardy did manage to score, Smalling was able to snuff out a number of promising Foxes attacks.
Continues to get better and better…

Kurt Zouma (Chelsea)

The young Frenchman has a very exciting career ahead of him if the weekend's display against Tottenham is anything to go by.
Starting alongside Gary Cahill, 21-year-old Zouma showed maturity beyond his years to continually deny delivery to the dangerous Harry Kane and any threat posed by the Spurs ace.

Patrick van Aanholt (Sunderland)

Scored a stunning opener in the win over Stoke and hardly put a foot wrong in defence as the Black Cats came up with a second straight clean sheet.
Has taken the next step in recent weeks after returning to the starting line-up, helping Sunderland to back-to-back clean sheets.

Midfielders

Junior Stanislas (Bournemouth)

The winger marked just his fourth start of the season with an important brace for the Cherries.
Fired home Josh King's cross in the 87th minute to tie it up at 2-2 before meeting Charlie Daniels' cross with a powerful header to level it at 3-3 in the 98th minute.

James McArthur (Crystal Palace)

The Scottish midfielder scored a very rare double as Palace hammered Newcastle.
Netted the equaliser for the Eagles with a fortuitous deflected effort, although it may have gone in the top corner otherwise, then fired home from an angle in injury-time to make it five for the South Londoners.
Cut down the Magpies threat in front of the back four while marauding forward to help himself to a brace.

Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)

De Bruyne is quickly vindicating his hefty price tag and if he continues to play like he did on the weekend, it won't be long until he fulfils his undoubted potential.
The Belgian again shone for City in the absence of David Silva, slotting home the opening goal in the ninth minute from close range before setting up Aleksandar Kolarov for his late finish.
Was a constant threat going forward for the league leaders.

Forwards

Yannick Bolasie (Crystal Palace)

The Congolese winger was back to his best for Palace with a brace in the demolition job on Newcastle.
Bolasie doubled his season tally with a slashing finish in the 17th minute to make it 2-1, as well as a 47th-minute volley when getting on the end of Damien Delany's header from a set piece.
Was involved with Connor Wickham in the build-up to Wilfried Zaha's goal and also made the driving run and provided the shot which led to McArthur's second.

Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)

The former non-league star became the first man in Premier League history to score in 11 consecutive games when netting the opener against Manchester United.
Undoubtedly the most in-form player in the entire competition with 14 goals in 14 appearances for the high-flying Foxes.

Odion Ighalo (Watford)

The underrated Ighalo again played a vital role for Watford as they beat Aston Villa 3-2 on Saturday.
The Nigerian opened the scoring with an opportunistic finish in the 17th minute after his initial effort forced a goal-mouth scramble, to notch his eighth of the campaign.
Ighalo was then the target for Troy Deeney's through ball which prompted an own-goal from Alan Hutton. Provided a massive headache for the Villa defence throughout the contest.

Manager

Sam Allardyce (Sunderland)

'Big Sam' has overseen a renaissance since walking through the gates at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats were unable to keep a clean sheet in nine league matches this season before Allardyce inspired them to a 3-0 Tyne-Wear derby win over Newcastle in October.
Losses to Everton and Southampton came next but the Wearsiders have put together back-to-back shut outs to move out of the bottom three. Allardyce has them looking very adept defensively and with goals starting to come, there is hope yet for the Black Cats.
