TRIBAL TEAM OF THE WEEK: Liverpool dominant alongside Everton pair

Published on: 04 March 2016

It was a Merseyside mauling during the week as Liverpool and Everton crushed their respective rivals.

The Reds bounced back from their disappointing Capital One Cup defeat by beating their Wembley conquerers Manchester City 3-0 at Anfield, prompting four players and their manager to be included in tribal's XI for Week 28 .

Meanwhile, the Toffees eased past a hapless Aston Villa side to have two inclusions for the weekly select.

Check out who joins them below:

TRIBAL TEAM OF THE WEEK - 28
*4-3-3 formation

Goalkeeper

Jack Butland (Stoke City)

The ever-impressive Butland was at it again in helping Stoke to a clean sheet against Newcastle on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old made a trio of quality saves to deny the Magpies, prompting Steve McClaren to state: "I'm glad we don't have to play against Jack Butland every week."
Butland's save to deny Seydou Doumbia in injury-time was absolutely top class and further enhanced his status as England's next big thing in the keeper department.

Defenders

Jon Flanagan (Liverpool)

The Liverpool favourite further endeared himself to the Anfield faithful by putting in a top shift at right-back in the 3-0 win over Man City.
In his first league start in 20 months, the 23-year-old shackled former Reds teammate Raheem Sterling who was hooked by Manuel Pellegrini at half-time.
'Flanno' produced a crunching challenge on the City winger early in the match which the locals absolutely loved.
He had six interceptions and six tackles in what was a vital defensive performance for the Reds who bounced back from their League Cup disappointment in fine style.

Ramiro Funes Mori (Everton)

The Argentine has often been the man to fill the injury void in central defence but is fast-becoming first choice, evidenced by his performance on Tuesday night at Aston Villa.
Funes Mori scored the opener with a thumping header before finding Romelu Lukaku for his side's third.
It was a solid defensive display by Funes Mori who was shifted around late after John Stones replaced Seamus Coleman.

Steve Cook (Bournemouth)

Cook was integral in Bournemouth's first win over Southampton since 1958.
Alongside Simon Francis, the 24-year-old kept dangerous duo Charlie Austin and Shane Long relatively quiet while scoring his side's opening goal with an acrobatic volley.
Also won eight aerial duals in what was a commanding defensive display in a significant triumph for the Cherries.

Kenedy (Chelsea)

The Brazilian, who can also be deployed on a wing or in a more advanced attacking role, made his first Premier League start at left-back.
It was an inspired choice by Guus Hiddink as Kenedy scored the fastest goal in the league this season with a lovely finish inside 40 seconds.
The 20-year-old went 69 minutes before being replaced by Baba Rahman due to a slight groin injury but it was a positive display and one that impressed his manager and Blues fans alike considering he was in a position that is not all that customary to him.

Midfielders

Matt Ritchie (Bournemouth)

The Scotland winger played a key role in his side's triumph over south coast rivals Southampton.
Ritchie's firmly whipped free-kick in the first half forced the in-form Fraser Forster into a rushed save which led to the opening goal from Cook.
In the second half, Ritchie played a more deft set-piece into the area which invited Benik Afobe to head home to settle a first victory over the Saints in almost six decades
His left peg was praised by manager Eddie Howe after the match, such is the importance of the attacking midfielder to the Cherries line-up.

James Milner (Liverpool)

The old stager was at his absolute best as Liverpool hammered his former club Man City.
Milner supplied Lallana with the pass for the opening goal before making it 2-0 with a toe-poked finish to beat former colleague Joe Hart.
The England international ran the show in midfield in what was a five-star performance against his old employers.

Adam Lallana (Liverpool)

Lallana was central to Liverpool's stunning triumph at City.
Opened the scoring with a confident run and low left-footed finish before producing a storming run when picking up possession outside the area and laying off for Roberto Firmino to finish it off early in the second half.
Created three chances and won 12 tackles in a stellar all-round display.

Forwards

Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)

Was another of Liverpool's stars in their brilliant slicing victory at the Etihad.
Played a neat little ball to allow Milner on goal for the team's second and then wrapped it up by rifling beyond Hart from Lallana's pass.
Has really come of age in 2016 with six of his seven league goals coming since the turn of the year.

Connor Wickham (Crystal Palace)

The talented yet a little inconsistent striker has strung together stellar performances for Palace.
Wickham backed up his almost-match-saving double against West Brom by scoring twice in the 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old produced a fabulous strike with his non-preferred right foot to equalise against his former club before emphatically firing home a volley from close range to give Palace the lead.
Despite his brilliant brace, however, Alan Pardew's men succumbed to a late Fabio Borini goal leaving Wickham with very little to show for his four goals in two games.

Kevin Mirallas (Everton)

The Belgian winger replaced the ill Tom Cleverley in the Everton line-up and delivered for Roberto Martinez.
His corner for Funes Mori's opener was perfection and his low cross for Aaron Lennon's goal on the counter was key.
Took his chance with both hands as the Toffees ran out comfortable winners at Villa.

Manager

Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool)

He may have lost his first cup final in charge of Liverpool, but Klopp did everything he could to ensure his side bounced back from the disappointment.
The Reds' display against Man City was supreme and even had the German in (almost) lost for words when he described the performance as 'BOOM!'.
It was a free-flowing and organised showing from the Merseysiders who will surely take plenty of heart knowing they have beaten a side who are usually hitting their straps at this stage of the campaign.
