Manchester United set for summer clear out
Manchester United’s Anthony Martial has been put up for sale as Erik ten Hag seeks a world-class striker this summer.
The Frenchman has yet to play 90 minutes this season and has only scored six goals in an injury-plagued campaign.
Martial returned from injury in the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest last Wednesday, but he was absent from the squad that beat Crystal Palace three days later due to another injury setback.
Ten Hag admires Martial and believes United’s attack works best with the Frenchman at the helm.
However, Martial has demonstrated that he cannot be relied on this season, and the club pushed to sign Wout Weghorst on loan in January.
With Ten Hag’s funds limited this summer, United knows they must raise funds to sign a top centre forward and central midfielder.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Martial will be a victim of the club’s finances and has been put up for sale in order to raise revenue.
Other players who are likely to leave are Harry Maguire, Alex Telles, and Anthony Elanga.
Frenkie de Jong, the Barcelona midfielder, remains Ten Hag’s priority target in midfield, but the Dutchman has enjoyed a renaissance at the Camp Nou this season.
