A stunning second-half performance saw Ghana thrash Gabon 4-0 in the first leg of their U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Accra on Saturday.

Here are five things we learned from the resounding victory.

Meteors must get the job done in Gabon.

Black Meteors recorded a resounding victory but have no reason to underestimate their opponents in the second leg. They must ensure they get the job done in Libreville. Gabon showed they can be dangerous opposition on a good day judging from their performance in the first half where they created decent chances and hit the post.

Foreign players turn on the style.

Head coach Ibrahim Tanko named eight foreign-based players in his starting line-up for the match and they didn't disappoint at all. The players performed admirably well, especially brace hero Osman Bukari, who plies his trade in Slovakia.

Bernard Tekpetey in hot form

The former Schalke striker proved his form in the Bundesliga II this season is a not a fluke. Coming into the game, 10 goals in all competitions for Paderborn but head coach Ibrahim Tanko decided to start him on the bench. However, just two minutes after being introduced, Tekpetey scored a brilliant finish to double the Black Meteors lead. After scoring, his positioning and link up play were impressive too.

Goal-scoring not a problem for Black Meteors

Nine goals in two home games. Black Meteors are on a different level when it comes to finding the back of the net compared to the senior national team, Black Stars, who often struggle in that department. The youngsters do it so well and with ease. The likes of Kwabena Owusu, Osman Bukari, Bernard Tekpetey showed on Saturday that the future of Ghana's football in terms of goal scoring is safe.

Ibrahim Tanko on the right path.

Since his appointment in November 2018, Black Meteors have seen great improvement. His tenure has seen the team deliver impressive performances. The attacking department is sharp, while the midfield and defence have been great. Tanko has his sight on ending Ghana's 16-years absence from the Olympic Games and from all indications he is on the right path to achieving that.
