Udinese 0-1 Bologna: Destro secures victory for Rossoblu

One goal was all Bologna needed to defeat Udinese in Serie A at the Stadio Friuli.

Rossoblu forward Mattia Destro broke the deadlock just 11 minutes from time to secure the three points for the away side.

The first real chance of the match fell to Bologna in the 22nd minute when an Anthony Mounier effort deflected off Danilo onto the face of the upright.

From the resulting corner Domenico Maietta could not get his toe to the ball to turn into the open net from just three yards.

Bologna were dominating the opening stages and a free header from Godfred Donsah was soon missed at the near post.

Udinese should have taken the lead at the half-hour mark when a Zdravko Kuzmanovic header was parried onto the post by goalkeeper Angelo Da Costa. Pablo Armero then slipped at the crucial moment and could not convert the rebound.

In the 70th minute a Francesco Lodi free kick was touched over the bar by Cyril Thereau.

Four minutes later a Udinese counter attack culminated in a Thereau volley that narrowly missed the far post.

Bologna took the lead in the 79th minute through Destro. The centre-forward took two players on in the box and subsequently made enough space for himself to fire past goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis.

Second-half substitute Antonio Di Natale saw his effort finish straight at Da Costa.

Four minutes from time, a Lodi free kick found the head of Felipe but his effort hit the post.

In the 90th minute Duvan Zapata had a glorious chance to secure a point for the home side but his left-footed effort flashed just wide of the far post.

Di Natale thought he had equalised in stoppage time but the goal was called back for the Italian being in an offside position.

Despite the loss, Udinese remain in 14th place while Bologna’s victory allows them to leapfrog Chievo into the 10th spot.
