Leicester City’s veteran striker Jamie Vardy levelled a Premier League goalscoring record on Sunday in City’s tussle with Watford at the King Power Stadium.

The 34-year-old rattled the net twice inside an eight-minute period in the first half against the Hornets, allowing the hosts to go into the break with a comfortable 3-1 advantage.

Leicester eventually completed the job in the second half in a 4-2 victory over their old title-winning manager Claudio Ranieri and Vardy’s brace took his tally to a whopping 93 league goals since he turned 30.

No other player of that vintage in the history of the Premier League has scored more goals than prolific frontman Vardy who continues to prove that age is just a number.

Vardy’s efforts allowed him to move alongside Arsenal icon Ian Wright – who also found the net an impressive 93 times after he turned 30. The ex-Gunners star is a cult hero in North London and Wright is considered one of the Premier League’s best-ever goal-getters.

Leicester’s own wily operator is in excellent company then and Vardy’s brace against Watford took his tally for the current campaign up to nine goals in 13 Premier League starts – a haul that puts him just two goals behind the division’s leading marksman, Mohamed Salah.

Prior to the new campaign, Vardy had notched at least 15 goals in each of the four full league campaigns following his 30th birthday, enjoying his most notable purple patch during the 2019-20 season, when he hit 23 goals and registered five assists for the Foxes.
