USL Championship side Saint Louis FC sign former Right to Dream Academy teen Abdul “Oscar” Umar

Ghanaian teen “Oscar” Umar has signed for USL Championship Saint Louis, the club has announced.

The youngster will join the side pending an approval from the league and the federation.

Umar moved to the United States in 2008 as part of the Right to Dream Academy.

“Oscar is someone who caught my eye back in 2017 playing for Richmond,” said STLFC Head Coach Anthony Pulis. “For a guy that’s so big, he has great technical ability and is very composed on the ball. He has a good range of passing and reads the game well. He is still a young player who I think has a lot of potential and is very hungry to do well.”

“I’m extremely excited to be joining Saint Louis FC,” said Umar. “I’m looking forward to coming in and helping the team any way that I can. I cannot wait to meet my new teammates, coaching staff, and of course the amazing STLFC fans!”

The Ghanaian youngster was born in the northern regional capital, Tamale before moving to America 10-years ago.

He attended Villanova University where he appeared in 74 games and scored five goals and tallied 12 assists during his collegiate career.

Umar then played for Ocean City Nor’easters in 2016 in the USL PDL and West Chester United of the NPSL in 2017 where he made five appearances for each club, respectively.

He would sign for Richmond Kickers midway through the 2017 USL season and has made 36 appearances since that time, including making 21 starts and scoring one goal during the 2018 USL season.
