Tottenham Hotspur claimed a 3-1 comeback victory over Aston Villa, a result which head coach Mauricio Pochettino felt was important for his side.

Spurs were 1-0 behind with 17 minutes to play, before debutant Tangut Ndombele netted an equaliser and Harry Kane added two more late on.

It's only the beginning of the season, but to start with a win is so important.

And, having tasted defeat in their last competitive fixture - the Champions League final against Liverpool - Pochettino was pleased to see his players respond strongly and secure the victory.

He told the club’s official website: "I'm very happy, very pleased. It's only the beginning of the season, but to start with a win is so important.

"The plan didn't work in the first half, but in the second it worked very well. I'm very pleased with how we played in the second half. We dominated and we were much better.

"After the final of the Champions League it's always good to feel the victory and I’m happy with the performance.

"We played so well in the second half and deserved the victory. I'm very pleased for the players."

Spurs and Pochettino face a huge test of their mettle in their next fixture, when they head to the Etihad Stadium to take on champions Manchester City next Saturday.

The visitors are available at 4/1 to earn a draw in Manchester, while the Londoners are 1/2 to secure a top-four finish come the end of the Premier League season.
