Emotions ran high as legendary footballer Asamoah Gyan broke down in tears while announcing his retirement from the sport.

The 37-year-old, known for his remarkable career and numerous records, couldn't hold back his emotions as he delivered the heartfelt news.

Gyan made the tearful announcement during a gathering at the Accra International Conference Centre, where he was attending the 30th Afreximbank Annual Meetings.

In a poignant moment, he declared, "It is time. It is time to hand the jersey and boots in glory as I officially retire from active football."

The weight of his decision and the realization that his playing days were coming to an end overwhelmed Gyan, causing him to shed tears.

Former Ivory Coast star Didier Drogba had to console the Ghanaian.

Gyan's retirement comes after a remarkable career filled with numerous achievements. He holds the title of Ghana's all-time leading scorer with an impressive 51 goals for the national team. Additionally, he made history as the highest-scoring African player in the FIFA World Cup.
