Former Chelsea star Michael Essien powerfully headed home near the edge of the box to reverse the losing streak of Indonesian giants Persib on Saturday.

The Ghanaian ace scored to help home side Persib defeat PS TNI 3-1 in Saturday night's game to end their five-game losing streak.

Essien was in top form as Persib played the first game of the second round of competition at the Stadium Jalak Harupat Bandung.

The victory helped Persib to rise to the 14th position in the league table with 24 points from 18 matches.

The hosts managed to open the scoring after 16 minutes with some fortune as Teguh Amiruddin cross accidentally hit striker Raphael Maitimo for the opener.

Five minutes later Persib doubled their advantage as Essien rose highest to powerfully head in a corner kick by Febri Hariyadi.

The score improved again to 3-0 midway through the second half with Maitimo scoring his second goal on the night on 64 minutes.

PS TNI did not give up easily as they fought hard to get goal back through Sansan Fauzi.
