England legend Gary Lineker says Jeffrey Schlupp's horrendous miss in the opening match of the Premier League over the weekend could be the worst ever one-on-one finish in the history of the competition.

The Leicester City left-back is an early candidate for miss of the season in England after firing horrendously over the bar in their match against Everton on Saturday.

The Ghana international was played through one-on-one with Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard and with his first touch in the Premier League it sailed over the East Midlands sky.

The 22-year-old, who help Leicester City to gain promotion to the top-flight, could have been a hero went he came on as a substitute but his effort was hilarious.

Schlupp was one-on-one with Howard but he did a proper comedy fall over as he shot, and the ball entered the orbit.

Lineker thinks the effort could go down as one of the worst finishes in the English Premier League since it started 22 years ago.

"Just saw quite possibly the worst one on one finish in PL (Premier League) history from Leicester's aptly named Schlupp," Lineker tweeted.

Schlupp is seeking to play matches in the English top-flight to gain a place in Ghana's starting place for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
