Vieri: Totti could leave Roma

Published on: 21 February 2016

Former Italy international and Inter striker Christian Vieri has weighed in on the current situation surrounding Roma captain Francesco Totti, claiming it would be the right decision for the 39-year-old to move abroad.

Totti recently vented his frustration towards newly appointed Roma coach Luciano Spalletti, after being excluded from the team’s starting line up, demanding more respect.

“If he [Totti] wants to keep playing and if he is fit enough to do so, then by all means he should carry on,” Vieri told Sky Sport Italia.

“And if he wants to stop, then he should stop. The decision is all his.

“The important thing is that no one tells him what to do.

“Spalletti is a great coach and a great person, I’m sure he will do very well at Roma, but he has to make some decisions.

“Francesco is almost 40-years-old and he wants to play games. He could choose to go abroad, otherwise he will stay in Rome.

“Whatever the choice he makes, it will be the right one.”
