Vietnam’s Luong Xuan Truong and Dang Van Lam join Thai League

Kuala Lumpur: Vietnam internationals Luong Xuan Truong and Dang Van Lam have signed with Thailand clubs Buriram United and Muangthong United respectively.

Both players featured in Vietnam’s campaign in the recent AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, where they assisted the Golden Dragons to a quarter-final finish after a 1-0 loss to eventual runners-up Japan.

Midfielder Luong rose to fame last January when he led  Vietnam to the AFC U23 Championship China 2018 final before losing to Uzbekistan 2-1 in extra-time.

His leadership and skills saw him called up to the senior squad for the 2018 ASEAN Football Federation Championship in November, overcoming Malaysia 3-2 on aggregate to lift their second regional title.

Luong's addition to Buriram United will strengthen the Thai champions in their bid for a third consecutive league title, as well as their campaign in the 2019 AFC Champions League against Urawa Red Diamonds, Beijing Guoan and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in Group G.

Buriram United made it to the Round of 16 last season, and will be aiming to outdo their previous best as they kick off their 2019 campaign against two-time champions Urawa Red Diamonds on March 6.

Luong will be joined in the Thai League by compatriot goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, who has moved to Muangthong United ahead of the 2019 season.

The 25-year-old Russian born Vietnamese custodian showcased his talent in UAE 2019, and played a pivotal role in Vietnam reaching the quarter-finals.

Muangthong United missed out on a 2019 AFC Champions League berth after finishing fourth in the league, and they will be counting on Dang playing a part in steering them to glory.
