Vinicius is far from his best at Real Madrid

Published on: 15 January 2021

Real Madrid's start to 2021 has been poor, with a Supercopa de Espana semi-final defeat to Athletic Club, as well as the continuing poor form of the club's attacking players, yet it's Vinicius Junior who is notably far from his best form.

The return of Eden Hazard has done little to aid the Brazilian's confidence, and Los Blancos are stuck with two underperforming players on the wings.

Vinicius is far from the player we saw carrying Los Blancos in his first season with the club, and what should have been an area of great strength for the Spanish giants has actually turned into a major headache.

The 20-year-old has disappeared from Zinedine Zidane's starting XI, as the Frenchman continues to trust the same selection, with rare exceptions.

Yet, when Vinicius comes off the bench, which doesn't always happen, his participation is often inconsequential; his dribbling is no longer as threatening, as we saw against Athletic, and he has stopped making defences lose their shape.

He has lost his momentum and isn't doing anything remarkable to get it back, and at this point you worry for the former Flamengo prodigy.
