WAFU U-17 Zone B Cup of Nations: Black Starlets set for final MRI tests ahead of tournament

The new set of players recruited by Ghana U-17 coach Paa Kwesi Fabin for the WAFU U-17 Cup of Nations are set to undergo Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) tests on Tuesday.

Fabin was forced to invite new players to continue preparations for the tournamnent after more than half of the Black Starlets team was dismissed from camp after failing an MRI test.

The sub-regional competition, which runs from June 11 to 24, features Benin, Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, and hosts Ghana.

Ghana will kick off their campaign against Nigeria at the Cape Coast stadium on Saturday, with Graphic Sports reporting that coach Fabin had presented the final 20-man squad to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for approval.

The Starlets players will undergo MRIs, after which the final tournament squad will be announced.

According to The Graphic Sports, the FA has implemented a strict policy under which the entire team would be disqualified if even one player failed the MRI test.

Black Starlets are heading into the tournament unbeaten in seven club friendlies so far, with the most recent win being an emphatic 3-0 thrashing of Division One side, Inter Allies FC, with forward, Andrew Appiah, scoring a second half brace for a well-deserved win last Friday evening.

They are scheduled to play their final warm-up game on Monday afternoon agaisnt Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.
