Head coach David Wagner is delighted to have been able to persuade Germany international Erik Durm to join Huddersfield Town from Borussia Dortmund.

The 26-year-old defender has signed an initial one-year deal with the Terriers, with an option in place for a further 12 months if Durm impresses and is able to avoid the injury problems which have dogged him in recent times.

Wagner told his club's official website: "It is not every day that you can bring a player of the quality of Erik to your club. He is a World Cup winner and has played at the very highest level.

"Obviously I know Erik well from our time together at Dortmund and he has all the qualities to be a great success.

"He has been very unfortunate with injuries for a year now, but he was training with Dortmund at the end of the season and he’s passed our medical with flying colours."

Durm had been with Dortmund for six seasons and was a member of the Germany squad who went all the way to win the World Cup in Brazil four years ago.

He joins a Town side who ensured a second season in the Premier League by beating the drop by four points last season, gaining draws at both Manchester City and Chelsea to secure their top-flight survival.

They are available at 6/5 to be relegated next season, with Brighton & Hove Albion 2/1 and Crystal Palace 11/2.
