Wanda Nara hit back at ex-husband Maxi Lopez and insists “we are Italian now, so we prefer to be at home” during the pandemic, reiterating Mauro Icardi’s desire to leave PSG.
The striker went to Paris on loan with option to buy from Inter for €70m, but his wife – who also acts as his agent – and their children continue to live in Italy.
Their decision to travel back to Lombardy, which is the epicentre of the pandemic, infuriated Maxi Lopez, who is Wanda’s ex-husband, Icardi’s former Sampdoria teammate and the father of three of her five children.
“I didn’t take the kids into the heart of the pandemic, as Maxi knows full well that we live in a small village outside Como, where there have been very few cases,” she told magazine Chi.
“This is my home, whereas in Paris we only rented a place and the lease was expiring. I feel safer in Italy than in Argentina. We are Italian now, so if something does happen to me, I’d prefer it to be in my home.
“Italy is our country, as it has given us all the wonderful parts of our lives. I could’ve flown to Argentina, but instead we hired two cars – one for Mauro, one for me – and divided up the kids so we could travel 750km for nine and a half hours, never stopping until we got home.
“It would’ve been riskier for us to go to Argentina, so Maxi ought to be happy I’m taking such good care of the children. I also consulted a paediatrician before making the move.”
This determination to get back to Como chimes with recent reports that Icardi has no intention of making the PSG move permanent, as he wants to play in Italy and Serie A.
However, that doesn’t necessarily mean he will remain at Inter.
It’s possible PSG could activate the €70m option to buy and then immediately sell Icardi on to Juventus, the club he had wanted to join last summer.
Napoli have also confirmed their interest in the Argentina international, although would struggle to meet those prices.
