Former England stars Michael Owen and Joe Cole are unsure about the benefits of Callum Hudson-Odoi joining Bayern Munich.
The Chelsea youngster ended up staying at Stamford Bridge last month, but Bayern are expected to come back in for him this summer.
The 18-year-old reportedly sees a move to the Bundesliga as more beneficial, with first team opportunities currently limited at Chelsea.
Fellow English teenager Jadon Sancho has shone at Borussia Dortmund, no doubt leafing the Blues’ star to feel the same could happen to him.
Speaking to BT Sport, Owen wasn’t convinced Hudson-Odoi would simply walk into Bayern’s team, given the talent on the show at the Allianz Arena:
"He’s only 18 and he’s involved a lot of the time. He’s obviously a talent, is he as good as Hazard and Pedro, players like that, he’s going to have to share a little bit with the likes of them to gain his experience.
"What annoys me is you think ‘oh yeah, go to Bayern Munich, you’re going to play a lot more’.
"Hang on, you’re talking Bayern Munich, there’s not much of a level between the two teams in terms of their ability, so don’t just assume that because other players have played in Germany it’s easy to get into the starting 11."
Former Chelsea favourite Cole also echoed that sentiment, saying Sancho being a success story abroad doesn’t guarantee it for other young English talent:
"I think because Jadon Sancho has hit the ground running, it has skewiffed a few people’s opinions on the Bundesliga."
"It’s not easy to go there to play for these top sides. I think Robben and Ribery will have words to say if an 18-year-old comes in and takes that position."
"My thing with Hudson-Odoi is I think he’s a fantastic talent and, as long as he’s getting minutes, look at the players to learn off."
"The three there are some of the best in that position in the world and the club need to nurture these boys because they’ve done so well but I think he’s at the right club."
"It will be interesting to see what Hudson-Odoi’s decision is come the summer, but Owen and Cole are a good pair to listen to, in terms of making key choices early on in your career."
