Randy Abbey backs under-fire Review Committee

Bad referees should keep being punished even if it means there will no one to officiate in the Premier League, Ghana FA Ex.Co member Randy Abbey says.

This statement was in defence of the newly installed Referee Review Committee which has come under intense criticisms since their suspension of several match officials for poor performance.

The critics insist if the new committee is not scrapped, unabated suspension will ensure that there will be no more referees to officiate Premier League games and this Abbey says would be his preference.

"I would in my opinion rather prefer we wait for referees to serve out their suspensions than to have no system in place top check referee performance," he told Asempa FM.

"There clearly are issues with the review committee but it is not enough to form the basis for scrapping it.

"It is a new committee and therefore we should help address these issues rather than call for its removal because in my opinion it is a very good committee which will help grow our game."

The committee GHANAsoccernet.com understands, will be working on a fortnight basis to primarily review performances of referees in the Premier League.
