'We are just happy to be back outside with some fresh air'- Columbus Crew captain Jonathan Mensah on return to training

Columbus Crew captain Jonathan Mensah has revealed his excitement following the club's return to outdoor training after almost two months indoors due to COVID-19.

The Black and Golds join a tall list of Major League Soccer teams to have returned to practice last week since the suspension of the league.

Mensah indicated it was good to see and have one on one chats with teammates, albeit under strict COVID-19 safety measures.

"We’ve been doing a lot, as I said, on video Zoom calls, but it’s always great to have a conversation with teammates, with the staff. But … it felt good to see them face to face, have some chats, and talk about everything," he told Columbuscrew.com.

"We are just happy to be back outside with some fresh air. Seeing the teammates, seeing the staff, seeing everyone on the team, and hopefully, this phase will help us get to phase two quicker," he added.

Although MLS clubs are back in training, players are undergoing individual practices as precautions against the spread of the virus.

Soccer clubs are yet to start group training, with the MLS set to resume in July.
