Auxerre midfielder Elisha Owusu remains optimistic despite his team's poor start to the Ligue 1 season, stating that setbacks are part of a learning curve for the squad.

Auxerre suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to AS Monaco, who have had a strong start to the campaign, securing three wins in their first four games.

Owusu, featuring at Stade Abbé-Deschamps on a warm Saturday afternoon, made his 39th appearance for Auxerre since joining the club in January 2023.

Despite the loss, the 26-year-old Ghana midfielder is confident the team will bounce back.

“It was a really difficult game. I think we are still learning. I am very proud of the team that we keep on working and learning. It was difficult, but we keep on going; the season is long,” Owusu told flashscore.

Currently sitting 15th on the Ligue 1 table, Auxerre has endured a challenging start, recording their third consecutive defeat after a promising opening-day win.

The team aims to retain its spot in the top flight after securing promotion by clinching the Ligue 2 title last season.

As the season progresses, Owusu and his teammates are hopeful of turning things around and proving their quality in the French top division.
