Hearts of Oak midfielder Frederick Ansah Botchway feels the need for the club to defend their Ghana Premier League title and has assured that the playing body will continue working hard.
The Phobians were handed their first league trophy in 12 years on Saturday at the WAFA Park in Sogakope.
Winning the league comes with the task of representing Ghana at the Caf Champions League and Botchway is looking forward to it.
“We don’t have to be complacent going into the new season because we will be the focus of every team in the country.
“If we have to defend our league title successfully, then we have to improve upon our game. I believe everyone is ready for that because we know the task ahead of us,” he noted.
“We know what lies ahead of us, especially playing in the Champions League, but I can tell you that everyone is committed to making a name for himself and so we will continue working hard,” Botchway said.
The midfielder has been an instrumental figure in Hearts’ league success, with the likes of Emmanuel Nettey, Ibrahim Salifu and Isaac Mensah being his midfield partners.
Touching on the transformation of the team midway through the season, Botchway credited Coach Samuel Boadu for bringing unity back into the team.
“We were playing well but were missing chances and you know how inconsistent we were at the beginning of the season. But our new coach came and transformed all of us.
“The key thing he did was to unite all of us and that has been the difference for the team,” he explained.
