Former England attacker Alan Shearer wants the FA to ban Ghana winger Andre Ayew, claiming the West Ham player dived during their 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

The Ghana international threw himself to the ground in the box seeking to fool referee Martin Atkinson to grant the Hammers a spot-kick but rather got the yellow card for his effort.

This came just seven days after Everton striker Oumar Niasse was suspended by the disciplinary board who examined his action as he bamboozled the arbitrator in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

The Senegal attacker's touch of gamesmanship was crucial as Everton snatched a point in the match that they would have lost.

A week ago, Senegal and Everton striker Oumar Niasse got a suspension after a disciplinary board examined his quest to deceive the referee in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

It turned out to be a bit of gamesmanship that had a significant effect for David Unsworth's side as they rescued a point from a match that they would have lost.

Even though Ayew got a yellow card for his action, Shearer feels the FA should go a lot further by giving a similar suspension to the Ghana international.

"This one is definitely not a penalty," said Shearer who was a pundit on the BBC Match of the Day.

"This is a dive.

"The unfortunate thing is that the panel cannot look at that. They should be able to."

Shearer insists there is the need for a tougher action on diving if it is to be eradicated from the game.

"If they want to stamp diving out then the panel should be able to go back," he said. "Very much like they did last week and look at the Niasse situation.

"They should look at that also and he should face a ban because that’s a terrible dive."
