What do Real Madrid need to qualify for the last 16? Or to top the group?

Qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League is in Real Madrid's hands after the latest round of fixtures in Group B.

Zinedine Zidane's side moved on to seven points with a 2-0 win over Inter and they now occupy second place in the group.

Shakhter Donetsk, meanwhile, were beaten 4-0 by Borussia Monchengladbach, leaving them three points adrift of Los Blancos in third.

Permutations for Real Madrid

If Real Madrid win away at Shakhtar in Matchday 5, they will qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League. It's that simple.

In order to finish top of the group, Los Blancos need to pick up more points than Gladbach in the final two rounds of fixtures.

A win against the German side on Matchday 6 in Madrid would likely mean Zidane's team top the group. If Gladbach fail to beat Inter in Matchday 5 and Real Madrid beat Shakhtar, the Spanish giants would need just a draw to top the group in the final round of fixtures.
