Who are the five players to replace Essien in Ghana's squad?

Published on: 15 July 2011

Michael Essien’s injury troubles mean that the Black Stars are in the search for world-class midfielder again.

The Chelsea midfielder was the heart and soul of the Ghana midfield over the eight years but this week's operation to his troubling knee means that he will be out for a long time.

Essien’s dynamic approach was complimented by the industrious nature of Anthony Annan as Ghana turned into a world football powerhouse.

In Essien's absence at the Africa Cup of Nations, Emmanuel 'Bone Crusher' Agyemang-Badu fitted in well and helped the team to reach the final.

Since then the Udinese player has grown in confidence and his recent performances have been heart-warming.

But Annan's form has dipped terribly which means apart from Agyemang-Badu and Derek Boateng Ghana does not have a very reliable central midfielder.

The job is meant for an industrious person who has got pace and power to strongly win balls from the opponent, distribute them effectively, help the defence when they are in need and join the attack when the opportunity arises.

Which other players do you think can fit in well in Ghana's central midfield position?

Are there any up and coming youngsters who can live up to expectation?

Are there any hidden talents that no one knows about?
