Technical Director of Willem II Tilburg, Joris Mathijsen has waxed lyrical over newly-signed Ghanaian duo Derrick Köhn and Kwasi Okyere Wriedt, explaining the reasons behind their signings.

Wriedt, 25, and compatriot Köhn, 21, have joined the Eredivisie side on three-year deals from German giants Bayern Munich.

The two players, born in Germany to Ghanaian parents played instrumental roles as the Bavarians' second team clinch the Bundesliga 3 title.

“The coronavirus crisis made it difficult to see people face-to-face. This made it extra special that we had already arranged all this," says Mathijsen, who scouted again in Germany after the previous successful purchases.

"Wriedt is the top scorer in the 3. Bundesliga. A very goal-oriented striker, who fits well into our system when playing football. We wanted to get him earlier, but last winter he was not allowed to leave Bayern. And Köhn is an offensive left back, that comes up a lot and has a good cross. He did not break through at Bayern, because he had to compete with a Alphonso Davies, but he fits very well with our football.”

Wriedt and Köhn are joined at Willem II Tilburg by compatriot Leeroy Owusu who was acquired from De Graafschap.
