Wilshere: What's happening with Ozil is a shame, I'm sure everyone will find out

Mesut Ozil has found himself completely frozen out of first-team affairs at Arsenal pretty much since the first period of lockdown in the United Kingdom ended and former teammate Jack Wilshere has weighed in on the subject.

Mikel Arteta's positive progress from 2019/20 appears to have stalled and, with the Gunners languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table, many are suggesting that the former Real Madrid playmaker would actually provide an answer to the creative problems the North London club are currently having.

"I loved playing with him [Ozil]," Wilshere explained in an interview with Sky Sports.

"He was a top player and [his situation] is a shame, but what is happening is happening and nobody knows why. But, I'm sure everyone will find out one day.

"I think he'd be a big player in that team, I would love to see Ozil play in that team under Arteta but obviously that's not happening at the moment. He could get on the ball and feed the likes of [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and [Alexandre] Lacazette."

When pressed on his own career, Wilshere stated that his search to find a new club after leaving West Ham United in the summer is ongoing.

"I'm in a position now where I can make a decision based on footballing reasons and pick the team that I think I could fit into," he added.

"I will have a look at the team, the players, the league they're in and how the manager wants to play.

"I don't think being at a club like West Ham really suited me. There have been a few talks with clubs, but nothing that I have ever fancied quite yet."
