Wolves to decide fate of Ghanaian defender Phil Ofosu-Ayeh next month

Wolverhampton Wanderers will take a decision on the future of injury-prone Ghanaian defender Phil Ofosu-Ayeh by June 23 as his contract nears expiration.

The English side will either offer the defender a new deal, a “2019/20 extension” until the end of the season or “no offer” at all and a subsequent release.

The 28-year-old has not played a competitive match  since he joined on a free transfer from German outfit Eintracht Braunschweig due to recurrent injuries.

The Ghanaian international has spent time on loan at Hansa Rostock and Würzburger Kickers in between the period.

Wolves will decide on the long-term future of the right-back as its looks increasingly clear he will be allowed to leave.

Matt Doherty is Wolves’ first-choice at right-back while Oskar Buur is back-up for the 28-year-old after being promoted from the reserves, so there’s no room for the Ghanaian.

He has just made just 11 appearances in all competitions in the last three seasons, none of which have come in Wolves colours.

Ayeh has led the most nomadic career,  playing for SV Wilhelmshaven, VfB Oldenburg, Rot-Weiß Erfurt, MSV Duisburg, VfR Aalen, Braunschweig, Wolves, FC Hansa Rostock and Würzburger Kickers.
