World Cup 2010: Ghana coach blanks questions over Kingson starting place

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has refused to guarantee goalkeeper Richard Kingson that he would play in their opening World Cup game against Serbia next week.

Kingson, 31, is the most capped member of the Black Stars squad but has been plagued by thigh and shoulder injuries.

The goalkeeper was widely slated by critics after his performance in Ghana's 4-1 loss to the Netherlands in a World Cup warm-up match earlier this week but Rajevac will not discuss his place.

"We don't want to discuss about individuals. We don't want to talk about individual players and their performances in friendly matches,"  said.

The Holland match was the Wigan goalkeeper's first since inspiring a Ghana side missing Essien, captain Stephen Appiah and Sunderland's John Mensah, to the final of the Africa Nations Cup in Angola in January.

Kingson's situation is in stark contrast to his Australian counterpart, Mark Schwarzer, who enters the World Cup off the back of a stunning season with Fulham.

But dropping Kingson, a veteran from Germany 2006, would be a big gamble for Rajevac, as understudies Daniel Agyei, 20, and Stephen Ahorlu, 21, who play in Ghana's domestic league, have made just three international appearances between them.
