World Cup 2010: Ghana duo Ayew and Mensah suspended for quarters

Published on: 26 June 2010

Ghana will miss the services of two key influential duo Andre Dede Ayew and Jonathan Mensah for Friday's quarter-final clash against Uruguay at the Soccer City Stadium due to yellow card accumulations.

Midfielder Ayew has been pivotal in Ghana's game plan and played a role in Ghana's goals scored at the tournament.

He was booked after a tackle on Jozy Altidore although television replay revealed he did not clip the player from the back.

His deep clearance teed up Asamoah Gyan who blasted home the match-winner in their 2-1 win over USA on Saturday night to progress to the last eight.

Mensah, 19, has filled the void created in Ghana defence due to Isaac Vorsah's injury.

He picked up his second yellow at the tournament after a tackle on Dempsey inside the box earned US a penalty on 62 minutes which they converted.
