World Cup 2010:FT: Ghana 1-1 Australia

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan converted a 25th minute penalty kick to draw 1-1 with Australia at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Saturday to move to the top of Group D.

Australia took a the lead through Bret Holman in the 11 minute when goalkeeper Richard Kingson spilled a free-kick.

Holman rushed onto the ball and turned home the opener to the surprise of the Ghana team. Andre Ayew's goal-bound shot ricocheted a defender for a corner kick

Ayew won a tussle between two Aussie defender and laid up Kwadwo Asamoah whose shot was handled on the line by striker Harry Kewell.

Gyan stepped forward and tricked goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer with the equalizer.

Ghana need a point against Germany on Thursday to advance to the next stage of the competition.
