Ghana defender Hans Adu Sarpei has called on his side to take away all emotion and play with their minds ahead of a crunch meeting with Germany in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
The full-back said the game puts a lot of pressure on him, as he plies his trade in the German Bundesliga, and on Kevin-Prince Boateng, who had a stint with Germany junior teams before changing allegiance.
“I was born in Ghana and grew up in Germany,†Sarpei said.
“I have played there my entire career. But this is a big game. This consolation of a win or die makes it much bigger.
“Myself, Kevin-Prince Boateng and the rest of the team must be calm and go into the game with our minds and not emotions so we don’t get red cards.â€
The 34-year-old is confident the four-time African champions will bag the needed points against the group favourites to progress to the knockout stages. Ghana lie at the top of Group D, a point better off than Joachim Loew’s charges.
Sarpei added: “Germany are a strong and an experienced team. Their previous World Cup positions tell of how strong they are. But they have a weakness too. Though strong, there is a weakness in defence. We will certainly have a chance to score.â€
