World Cup 2022 draw: All you need to know! how it works, qualified teams, rules and streaming

The draw for the 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place in Doha, Qatar on Friday with 32 countries expected to know their group opponents.

This will be the first World Cup in the middle-east and last with 32 teams amid talks of an expansion by FIFA to 48 nations from 2026.

When and where is the World Cup draw?

The draw is scheduled to take place on Friday April 1,  at 9:30 pm IST at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre in Qatar.

How does the World Cup draw work?

The 32 qualified countries will be distributed into four pots based on FIFA’s ranking as on March 31. The three slots for the sides, which are undecided, will have placeholders for the draw.

What is the procedure for the Final Draw?

The four pots will be emptied by drawing the eight teams they each contain one by one and placing them in the eight groups of four teams (Groups A to H). Hosts Russia will occupy the top position in Group A, while the seven other seeds will occupy the top spots in Groups B to H. The positions of all the other teams (from pots 2, 3 and 4) will be decided when they are drawn.

As is customary at Final Draws, a ball will be drawn from the team pots and then another from the group pots to determine the position in which the team in question will play.

With the exception of UEFA, which has more qualifiers (14) than there are groups (8), no teams from the same confederation can be drawn in the same group.

When is the World Cup starting?

The 2022 World Cup will not be played in the summer for the first time in its history as it moved to the middle-east for the first time.

The tournament start from November 21. Kick off for the opening match is set at 3:30pm

The final will be played on December 18 with kick-0ff set for  8:30 pm.
