World Cup 2026 Qualifiers: Haruna Iddrisu charges Black Stars to bounce back from terrible form with a victory

Ghana's Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has urged the Black Stars to continue their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a win against Chad.

This match marks Ghana's first game of the year, as the team seek to recover from a dismal run of form in 2024.

The Black Stars experienced a downward spiral in 2024, failing to win their last six matches and missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco – a first in two decades.

Iddrisu emphasised the need for a turnaround, stating, "We need nothing but a win against Chad."

He also highlighted the importance of revamping the team's strategy, noting that "there is something fundamentally wrong" with the current approach. To get back on track, Iddrisu advised prioritising grassroots development and securing corporate sponsorships.

The Minister stressed the need to nurture young talent through school sports and competitions.

"We need to activate school sports and school competitions because that's where the talents are," he urged.

Ghana currently sits in third position in their World Cup qualifying group, leveled on points with second-place Comoros.
