World Cup qualifiers: Nigeria suffer shock home defeat against Central African Republic

Published on: 07 October 2021

Nigeria were shockingly beaten 1-0 by the Central African Republic in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Thursday evening.

The Super Eagles were heavy favourites to win the Group C encounter in Lagos but Central African Republic stunned them with a stoppage-time winner.

The goal came from substitute Karl Namnganda, who plays in the French fourth tier for Les Herbiers in the 91st minute.

The forward latched on to a long ball which the Super Eagles defence had failed to clear to score in the 91st minute in Lagos.

Nigeria remain top of Group C with six points from three matches, but Central African Republic are now just two points behind Gernot Rohr's side after registering their first win.
