Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is expected to announce a provisional 26-man squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The former Al Khartoum Watani gaffer will settle on his final 23-man squad for the tournament in Egypt after two friendlies- one against South Africa and the second with a yet-to-be-named opponent.

Ghana will start their campaign on June 24 against Benin before playing Guinea Bissau and Cameroon.

Huge interest continues to follow the naming of the 23 men who will be tasked to win the title to end a sprawling 37-year title drought for the West African giants.

However, there is a growing concern over the form of some key cogs of the team ahead of the continental showpiece.

Another massive concern for the Black Stars is their atrocious goal scoring return from their key forwards ahead of the competition, with their woeful tally of less than twenty goals.

Andre and Jordan Ayew who are widely expected to lead the line for the team have been struggling put in decent performances at club level with the pair failing hit the back of the twine in the last ten games for their respective clubs.

Asamoah Gyan, who is reported to have been pencilled down by coach Appiah for the competition despite his injury problems, came off the bench to score a brace for his club over the weekend.

However, statistics indicate the 33-year-old forward has netted only five goals in 16 games at club level this term.

The defensive area of the team has also faced opprobrium over the lack of competitive action for some of the widely expected starters in the team.

Only John Boye has been consistent in the last nine months for his club FC Metz, leading them to win promotion to the first-tier league.

Coach Appiah could have a tough job in guiding the team to end their 37-year title drought.
