Weekly round-up of performance of Ghanaian players abroad

Ghanasoccernet.com brings you a lowdown for how Ghanaian players fared abroad as some league in Europe judder to the winter break.

In England:

John Pantsil put up a splendid show for Fulham when he was given the opportunity to replace Mexican Carlos Salcido on 24 minutes for Fulham.

The Cottagers battled from behind to draw 1-1 with Birmingham City at the home.

Goalkeeper Richard Kingson kept the post for Blackpool which caused a stir by holding fifth- placed Bolton Wanderers 2-2 at the Reebok Stadium.

Kingson denied Matt Taylor a 29th birthday goal when he parried his well taken free kick early in the game.

Asamoah Gyan and John Mensah both made injury returns for Sunderland which tasted defeat at the brink of the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mensah started in an injury-pruned defence of the Black Cats while Gyan came on in the second half.

Gyan assisted Darren Bent on the 67th minute to level the scoring before taking the lead later on but Wolves fought back from behind to win 3-2.

Michael Essien sat out Chelsea's 1-1 draw at Newcastle due to suspension.

Elsewhere in the Npower Championship, Queens Parks Rangers opened a five point gap at the top by silencing second placed Cardiff City 2-1.

Burly forward Patrick Agyemang was introduced on the 90th minute mark.

Leeds United dropped to eighth place after playing a pulsating scoreless game with Reading on Saturday.

Winger Lloyd Sam replaced Snodgrass after 88 minutes.

Albert Adomah helped Bristol City to lift themselves from the relegation zone after managing a smooth 3-0 victory over a ten-man Sheffield United.

The striker was replaced after 77 minutes.

Germany:

TSG Hoffenheim shared the spoils with giants Bayer Leverkusen at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena by drawing 2-2.

Defender Isaac Vorsah played in his usual center-half position while striker Prince Tagoe was introduced with three minutes left for play.

Hoffenheim have dropped to sixth place after the draw.

Schalke 04 recorded their heaviest defeat of the season by going down 5-0 to Kaiserslautern.

Ghana left-back Hans Adu-Sarpei was not in the Schalke first team that made the trip.

Charles Takyi played eight minutes for ten-man St. Pauli which succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at giants Werder Bremen.

Davidson Drobo-Ampem is yet to make a first team appearance for St. Pauli.

France:

Olympique  Marseille have hit the league summit after a triumphant display at the Stade Velodrome which saw them crash Montpellier 4-0.

Winger Andre Ayew played a starring role for Marseille while Jordan Ayew witnessed proceedings from the bench.

Defender Jerry Vandame could not make the first team list for Lille which held Bordeaux to a one-all draw away.

There was no first team place for Abeiku Quansah when his club- Nice stole a vital point at Monaco.

Netheralands:

It was a blissful weekend for Matthew Amoah as his brace undid PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie on Friday.

Amoah assisted in the Breda first goal before heading home his first goal four minutes before the interval.

He then scored 11 minutes from time to wrap up the victory for Breda.

Eric Addo gained a rare start for Roda JC and helped them to a 1-0 win over FC Groningen.

Addo was booked on the 90th minute.

Laryea Kingston recovered from the minor injury he suffered last weekend to play 26 minutes for Vitesse Arnhem in their 1-1 draw with De Graafschap away.

Midfielder Kwame Quansah played 67 minutes in Heracles Almelo's shocking 2-1 win over FC Utrecht at home.

Left-back Nana Kwasi Asare is yet to return from a long term injury while Erixon Danso was also out of the Utrecht first team.

Italy:

Kevin-Prince Boateng was replaced on the 90th minute by Mathieu Flaminin as AC Milan split points in a 1-1 draw with Sampdoria.

Cesena moved to 18th place after splitting the points with Bari on Sunday afternoon.

Ex-Ghana skipper Stephen Appiah was not in the Cesena first team.

An Antonio D'Natale hat-trick pushed Udinese to ninth place on the log in the Serie A.

Kwadwo Asamoah was in full time action for Udinese but compatriot Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu was on the bench as Les Zebrettes won 3-1 against Napoli.

Elsewhere in the Serie B, Ghana Under-20 player Amidu Salifu who scored in mid-week for Vicenza was brought on on the 75th minute when Vicenza won 2-1 at Crotone.

Belgium:

Daniel Opare was instrumental for Standard Liege as they white-washed Lierse SK 7-0 Maurice Dufrasne Stadium.

The former Real Madrid defender played a delightful role for Liege but former Ahli midfielder Mensah Akwetey was out of the Lierse first team.

William Owusu Acheampong helped Cercle Brugge to post a 1-0 win over Germinal Beerschot at home.

Switzerland:

Mark Edusei played full throttle for Bellinzona which emerged comprehensive winner over Grasshopper.

Bellinzona won the tie 2-3 at Grasshoppers backyard.

Samuel Inkoom was out of action for FC Basel this weekend as they won 1-2 against Xamax.

Spain:

Mallorca posted a 2-0 win over Malaga to further deepen their relegation woes.

Speedster Quincy Owusu-Abeyie came on after 72 minutes of play but could not help them to reverse the score line.

Jeffery Sarpong warmed the bench for Real Sociedad in their 3-1 away win over Sporting Gijon.

Derek Boateng was impressive and lasted the entire duration for Getafe in their unthinkable 3-1 away win over Sevilla.

In the Segunda Division, Mubarak Wakaso was a 69th minute sub for Elche FC which picked a vital away point from Huesca by drawing 2-2.

There was no action for both Jonathan Mensah and Ransford Osei when Granada FC were held 1-1 by Cordoba at home.

Other leagues:

Haminu Draman sat on the bench for Lokomotiv Moscow in their scoreless draw with Rubin Kazan.

In the Greece Super League, Bernard Yao Kumordzi was out of action when his club- Panionios recorded a slim 1-0 win over visiting Iraklis.

Enoch Adu-Kofi picked a booking when FC Nordsjælland failed to pick the points against Sonderjyske by drawing 1-1 in the Danish League.

Still in the Danish League, there was another booking for Issah Ahmed in Randers FC's 0-3 home defeat to FC Copenhagen.

In the Scottish Premier League, Francis Dickoh was at the heart of defence for Hibernian whose resurgence from the drop zone suffered another jolt as they were held at home by St. Johnstone.

Stephen Ahorlu and Eric Gawu both started for Hapoel Ashkelon but they were hammered 3-0 by Maccaibi Haifa on home turf.

Osman Bashiru was introduced on the hour mark for Ashkelon but his performance could not prevent defeat.

Former Kessben FC and national Under-23 defender Daniel Addo played in defence for Hapoel Petah Tikva which lost 0-2 at Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv.
