Writing on the wall as Townsend turns out for Tottenham U21s

Published on: 01 December 2015

Andros Townsend's future at Tottenham appears to be settled after the winger was demoted to the U21 team.

The 24-year-old, who still harbours ambitions of making England's Euro2016 squad, played a full 90 minutes for Spurs in their 2-1 win over Middlesbrough in poor conditions at Rockliffe Park.

Townsend has not played for Mauricio Pochettino's first team since October and has now slid further down the pecking order, as evidenced by his appearance for the U21s.

The likes of Swansea City, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Leicester City and Newcastle United are all showing interest in Townsend who is determined to leave White Hart Lane in January in order to enhance his chances of forcing his way into Roy Hodgson's Three Lions plans for next summer's European Championships in France.
