Ghana youth international Ishmael Yartey is confident of making a huge impact at the high level after making his Portuguese top-flight debut this week.

The 21-year-old was a second-half substitute for Beira Mar as they were defeated 1-0 by Maritimo on Sunday.

Yartey joined Beira Mara on loan at the start of the month from giants Benfica.

The utility player was signed by Benfica after he excelled at the U17 World Cup four years ago and was left with the youth side of the club.

He also spent some time on loan at second division side Fatima but has now been given the chance to excel at the high level.

After making his debut in the top-flight, Yartey says he wants to make an impression with his performances.

"I am excited that I have finally had the chance to play at the high level," Yartey told Ghanasoccernet.com.

"I have to continue to work hard so that I can grab a permanent place in the team for me to continue to progress in my career.

"I have gained enough experience in the second division leagues of Portugal now I must prove my capability at this level.

"I can only succeed with hardwork and this is what I am determined to do."

Yartey spent last season on loan at Beira-Mar and helped them secure promotion to the Portuguese top flight.

The offensive midfielder made 17 appearances and scored two goals.

Yartey was a  key member of Ghana’s Under-17 team that placed fourth at the 2007 Fifa World Cup in Korea.
