Tony Yeboah has backed Akwasi Appiah to succeed as coach of the Black Stars but cautioned he should not allow to be dictated to.

The 51-year-old was handed a two-year renewable contract with the Ghana FA to lead the side to 2013 Nations Cup glory and a semi final berth at the 2014 World Cup.

His former national teammate, Yeboah though upbeat of Appiah’s chances with the senior national team insists he should be given the free hand and support to operate without any impositions.

“It is delightful news to have Akwasi Appiah coach the Black Stars,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“We all know how Ghana is especially when given such a big post where every big man wants to have his way with layer selections.

“But I will advice he (Appiah) stands his ground and take his own decisions. People say he (Appiah) is weak but I know he is a very tough and smart guy.

“He should listen to suggestions but all decisions should ultimately be taken by him under no duress from anybody.”

Appiah until his appointment had served as an assistant an assistant coach of the Black Stars since 2008.
