Yunus Musah could miss United States’ Gold Cup campaign

United States international Yunus Musah could miss CONCACAF Gold Cup because of pre-season with Spanish club Valencia.

Musah, who could have played for Ghana, is expected to report for Valencia's pre-season three days after the commencement of the Gold Cup.

It has been revealed that the new coach of Valencia Jose Bordalas expects the American to report for the start of the preseason, on July 5, which would make it impossible for him to play his first official tournament with the United States team.

According to reports, the 18-year-old midfielder has some offers within Spanish football to leave Valencia, but Bordalas prefers to evaluate his performance before thinking about a possible transfer.

Musah was expected to be part of Gregg Berhalter's call-up for the next Gold Cup, in which the United States will seek to reaffirm its dominance in Concacaf, after having won the League of Nations, in which Musah had no activity despite having been called up.

He had a fairly decent season with Valencia, playing 35 games and scoring two goals across all competitions, for which he was handed a contract extension until June 2026.
